Why are my prayers not answered?
Why are my prayers not answered?
This is a very difficult question. In these current time, more and more people are finding themselves with jobs under threat, in economic hardship, others have sickness or illness.
In situations like these many people turn to prayer. I have as well.
So what does it mean when no answer comes?
Sometimes the problem just sits there - completely unchanged by prayer, other times it even gets worse.
The temptation is to think - has God heard me? If he has heard me, why isnt he helping? If he is not helping...maybe he is not interested in ME? Sometimes we connect Gods lack of help to our own guilt - "maybe God isnt helping me, because I have led a life he would not approve of?"
So you keep praying right? but sometimes the answer still doesnt come?
Then what?
I have been there... It really hurts. I took it personally and so I concluded that God wasnt interested in me, and stopped praying. The problems stayed the same. No better no worse... I gave up on God for a while, and weeks and months went by, but deep down something was nagging at me.
We know life isnt easy.
Sadly, we cant just pick the phone up to God and all our problems will go away. The world just doesnt work like that. Nor does God.
I have thought and read a lot about this. Because it nagged and bugged me. This what I conclude so far...
God has plans for us. He wants us to be people with skills and character that we do not yet possess. So, like a parent looking after a small child, he teaches and shows us things. Like our parents telling us off, sometimes it hurts. Some of the experiences hurt, and sometimes we wonder why they are happening. They are a way of giving us experience, which God may want us to use in other ways.
Like the small children, sometimes the lessons we learn hurt, and sometimes our parents must be stern with us, for us to learn a lesson. God however can not just appear on earth and give us a stern word, or a smack!
He uses other ways. Sometimes these are tests are perseverence. He wants to see if you will keep believing in him, or quit when the going gets tough (like I did a few years ago).
Anyone can believe in God when life is easy....but God wants to teach you perseverance, faith, and patience, he wants you to be strong...
So, he may not answer your prayer straight away. He does not enjoy seeing you suffer, but as you pray it will allow you to focus on something you really want. It will strengthen your relationship with God. It will make you understand yourself and your needs more. Often it will cause you to seek God, and leran more about him. It will put into perspective the problem in your life. God will see you are genuine...
So in answer to why my prayers arent answered? Keep praying... You may get a different answer than the one your expected...

Questions about God?
Have you ever wondered if there is more to life than this?
Do we work, grow old, die and thats it?
So is there a God?
What is he doing now?
Where actually is God now?
Why does God create the earth with all is pain and suffering?
These questions bother me, and many others, and come to us when we are alone, scared, facing trouble, death, illness, passing of loved ones... but these questions are the reason behind this blog..
